Square Cake Puzzle

Last week, we started doing puzzles in the office. Bruce asked one that I enjoyed. There is a square cake. And there is a square shaped hole in the cake. The hole is in a random place (and at a random angle). You want to evenly divide the cake with only a single cut. Where do you cut?

Horizontally down the middle.

That's a clever answer. I wanted to exclude this answer in my post, but I actually think it's a fun answer. Now that you have that answer, assume the cake has layers with different flavors and you want to share it all evenly. Thus, no horizontal cake cutting.

Make a cut that passes through both the middle of the cake and through the middle of the hole.

This works because any straight line that passes through the middle of a rectangle will divide that rectangle into two equal parts. Therefore if you draw a line (or in this case make a cut) that passes through the middle of both the cake and the hole you must have equally divided both the cake and the hole.

Mark the two center points of small rectangle and large rectangle. Now cut the cake joining two points. This will give exact halves of cake.
